Congratulations to Meredith Bruno, Librarian at Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary for being the recipient of Librarian of the Year for the Oneida/Herkimer Library System. She will be honored at a luncheon at OHM BOCES on May 13, 2024.
Mrs. Bruno has taken initiative in developing MLK’s PBIS program and working closely with classroom teachers to ensure efficacy. Meredith consistently researches funding and grants for the library. She has secured funding for a “Little Library” outside of her building for their community members and families to utilize, as well as fundraising initiatives to enable MLK to host a Scholastic Book Fair. She has organized and hosted family events to encourage literacy and family engagement in her school community. Her continuous focus on our diverse population provides our students with exposure to culturally responsive and relevant literature, enabling our students to make strong connections.
Many days, I will find Meredith and students engrossed in project-based learning, excited to learn. Meredith facilitates a coding club during student lunches, providing our students an opportunity to utilize new technology and focus on STEM curriculum. She also facilitates our School Safety Patrol, helping us reiterate our PBIS rules daily.
Meredith is a valued asset to MLK as well as the Utica City School district. We are fortunate she is part of our team!
