To Our UCSD Community,
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a relaxing and restorative Spring Break. It’s hard to believe, but we have already turned the corner into the final months of this academic year.
As we look ahead to the remaining few weeks, please take note of some key dates and upcoming events that are important for our community:
Teacher Appreciation Week: May 6 – May 10
Our district will celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, recognizing the incredible dedication and hard work of our teachers. I encourage students and parents to visit their school’s main office to pick up a “Thank You to My Favorite Teacher” form. Students will have the opportunity to fill these out and personally deliver them to their teachers during the week. Our teachers are truly the heart and soul of our district, and this is a wonderful way to show our gratitude.
Board of Education Budget Hearing: May 7
This important meeting gives us the opportunity to share the three-part budget for the 2024-2025 school year. We invite you to join us to learn more.
School Budget Vote: May 21
Please take the time to come out and vote on the proposed budget for the 2024-25 school year. The proposed budget amounts to $266,454,264, with a 0% levy increase and adherence to the Property Tax Cap. Additionally, you will decide on a $65 million Capital Improvement Project (project costs are eligible for building aid and will receive approximately 98% aid), the establishment of a 2024 Capital Reserve Fund up to $15 million, the election of one Board of Education seat for a five-year term, and the funding for the Utica Public Library totaling $886,809.
Superintendent’s Conference Day | No School: May 21
Memorial Day | No School: May 27
The school district has upgraded the security systems at each middle school entry points over the break. This included the installation of metal detectors and bag scanning devices. The first few days' entry may take a few more minutes until all students get used to the system.
Let’s finish out the year strong! Your continued support and engagement are what make our district a remarkable place for our students to learn and grow.
Warm regards, Dr. Kathleen Davis
Interim Superintendent
