District News - Utica City School District Announces Acting Superintendent of Schools - Jun. 2023

The Utica City School District Board of Education announced the appointment of Dr. Kathleen Davis as Acting Superintendent of Schools during a Board meeting on June 27, 2023.

Dr. Davis will assume the role of Acting Superintendent of Schools effective July 11, 2023 through June 30, 2024, replacing Steven Falchi who will return to his permanent position as Chief Academic Officer for the District after being temporarily appointed and serving as Acting Superintendent of Schools since May 23, 2023.

“The Board is very grateful for the leadership and support that Mr. Falchi provided during this time of transition,” said Board of Education President Joseph Hobika Jr. “He has been with the District for more than 30 years and cares deeply about it and our students. His continued willingness to serve the District is recognized and appreciated.”

Dr. Davis has 41 years of experience in education serving as a coach, teacher, building administrator and Superintendent of Schools. She retired in 2016 after serving as the Superintendent of Holland Patent Central Schools for more than 15 years. Since 2017, Dr. Davis has served as an interim Superintendent for the Canastota, Geneva City, New York Mills, Oneida City and Waterville School Districts, and most recently as Acting Superintendent for the Baldwinsville Central School District. She has also served as an Interim Principal for the Baldwinsville, Oneida City and Vernon-Verona-Sherrill School Districts.

Dr. Davis earned her Doctorate from the Esteves School of Education at Russell Sage College, her Certificate of Advanced Study in Administration and Master of Science in Education from SUNY Cortland, and her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a minor in Speech and Hearing from SUNY Oneonta. She completed the SUNY Oswego Superintendent Development Program and holds permanent certifications in School District Administration, Nursery, Kindergarten and Grades 1-6.

“We are grateful to have Dr. Davis available to guide our District during this time,” said Hobika Jr. “She is an accomplished leader who will help further our district’s legacy of providing the highest quality education and opportunities for our students. The Board looks forward to working with Dr. Davis, along with the entire administrative team and staff, to ensure students continue to attain the knowledge, skills and character necessary to become productive members of society.”
