District News: Broadway Theatre League of Utica Partners with Oneida County to Bring "The Polar Express" to Local Students

Broadway Utica and Oneida County Government came together this morning to announce an exciting opportunity for students across Oneida County at MLK Elementary! Dr. Christopher Spence, MLK Principal Sikora, and even Mr. and Mrs. Clause were present for the exciting announcement.

"The Broadway Theatre League of Utica is thrilled to announce, through their UticaWorx program, special free screenings of the beloved film "The Polar Express" will be offered to local students at The Stanley and Rome Capitol theatres courtesy of Oneida County.

These enchanting events, which aim to inspire and delight young audiences, will be offered exclusively to over 4,000 area students in grades K-5!

“Oneida County is proud to support the Broadway Theatre League of Utica in bringing this holiday classic to as many students as possible,” said Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. “These events not only foster a love for the arts among our children, but also strengthen the bonds within our community. I encourage every educator and district to take part in this magical experience and make lasting memories that will be cherished beyond the holiday season.”

"We are excited to provide this opportunity for our local students to experience the joy of 'The Polar Express' during the holiday season, and we thank Oneida County for the generosity that has made it possible," said Danielle Padula, Executive Director of the Broadway Theatre League of Utica. "We have seen the power that the arts play in the development of young minds and how it can bring many people together. As adults, being able to attend shows at either theatre is something that we may take for granted, but for a lot of the youth attending 'The Polar Express' this will be their very first time stepping in these historic buildings.”

Each student in attendance for the performances at The Stanley and Rome Capitol Theatre will receive a custom Oneida County "Polar Express" bookmark and will be provided with complimentary popcorn and water during the movie, enhancing this experience. Children are encouraged to enjoy the movie in comfort, by wearing their pajamas. There might even be some special guests in attendance as well."
