Farm to School
The New York State Farm-to-School Program was created to connect schools with local farms and food producers to strengthen local agriculture, improve student health, and promote regional food systems awareness. The Food Service Department is excited to start providing more locally sourced, seasonal, New York State grown and processed food items throughout the school year. On September 14th, the district participated in a New York State Picnic Day along with many other districts in the area. All of our 10 elementary schools served local, all beef, hot dogs, local corn on the cob, watermelon slices, chocolate chip cookies and milk. Students received stickers for participating and trying these new food items. Our department is excited to continue providing new items from throughout the region over the course of the school year.
