District News: New York State Seal of Biliteracy and Class of 2024 Top 10

There was much to celebrate at the last Board of Education meeting on May 15, 2024. There was a total of 53 Proctor Seniors that earned the New York State Seal of Biliteracy. Students needed to demonstrate their ability to listen, speak, read, and write in both English and in another language. This year, there was also a student that earned a Seal of Multiliteracy – 3 languages (Bosnian, Serbian, and Montenegrin), as well as English. This was a first for the Utica CSD! Students in attendance were presented a certificate from the Utica City School District and were congratulated individually by Dr. Davis, Interim Superintendent of the Utica CSD, as well as all the Board of Education members. A special thank you to the co-coordinators of the NYSSB program, Mrs. Fielteau (Proctor ENL Department Chair) and Mr. Nicholas-Hahn (Proctor World Languages Department Chair), as well as the support of Mr. Szczesniak and Mr. Paradis.

Mr. Paradis introduced the Class of 2024 Top 10, including this year’s Valedictorian, Marcella Zielinski, and Salutatorian, Maddi Smith. During Mr. Paradis’ presentation to Dr. Davis, Interim Superintendent of Schools, as well as the Board of Education, he proudly celebrated all their successes throughout their high school career at Proctor, as well as their academic achievement.
