Students in Mrs. Piazza's Family and Consumer Sciences class at JFK Middle School are cultivating both plants and practical skills through an exciting Agritech module featuring their classroom "Grow Wall."
Working in collaborative Design Teams, the middle schoolers selected and nurtured a variety of crops from seed, including five types of lettuce and several herbs such as Cilantro, Parsley, Dill, Basil, Purple Basil, and Rosemary. This hands-on project has allowed students to witness the complete growing cycle while gaining valuable experience in agricultural technology.
Now that harvest time has arrived, the young gardeners are enjoying the literal fruits of their labor by preparing healthy snacks and meals with their homegrown produce. From freshly tossed salads to herb-infused dips and creative vegetable rice cakes topped with cream cheese, basil, and cherry tomatoes, students are not only learning about nutrition but also experiencing the satisfaction of eating what they've grown.
The enthusiastic response to this module demonstrates how connecting classroom learning to real-world applications creates meaningful educational experiences for our JFK Middle School Raiders!
