Columbus Educator Spotlight: Ms. Katherine Murphy

Meet Ms. Katherine Murphy, a dedicated and passionate educator whose journey began right here in the Utica City School District! A proud graduate of the former Utica Free Academy (UFA), Ms. Murphy went on to earn her master’s degree from SUNY Oneonta before returning to Utica to make a lasting impact in the classroom.

With an incredible 34-year career, Ms. Murphy has shaped the minds of young learners across the district. She began teaching Kindergarten at the former Kemble School in 1990 before spending 26 years guiding fourth graders at Watson Williams. For the past seven years, she has continued inspiring students as a fourth-grade teacher at Columbus Elementary. Known for her ability to foster meaningful relationships with her students, Ms. Murphy is passionate about making learning a fun and engaging experience.
